During the last few years, the Mid-west Supercross fan has had lots of local talent to cheer while watching the world’s best riders compete on world’s biggest stage of dirt bike racing. This season fly-over country will add a couple more hopefuls to the mix, a brother team from Collinsville, IL. Courtney Lemons caught up with Travis and Mason Eck at Sweeney MX Track while preparing for the 2015 Monster Energy Supercross East rounds that begins on February 14 in Arlington, TX at AT&T Stadium.

Age: 21

Hometown: Collinsville, IL

Experience: Started racing at the age of 9


Courtney: How did you get into motocross?

Travis: My dad brought home a Jr 50 when I was 9 and started riding it around the house.


I heard you have a supercross track at your house. How often do you ride it?

Yes I do, I try to ride it three times a week.


What is your biggest motocross accomplishment?

Getting my pro license my first year in A class at age 20.


Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

Have fun and never give up.


Who’s your inspiration?

Wil Hahn because I admire his hardworking lifestyle.


Do you have a motto you live by?

You can’t put a limit on anything, the further you dream the more you will achieve.


What rounds will you be racing this year?

2015 East coast SX and outdoor nationals.

Age: 24

Hometown: Collinsville, IL

Experience: Started riding at the age of 12


Courtney: Who got you into racing?

Mason: Whenever my dad surprised me one day with a pw80 in the back of his truck, I wasn’t sure what it was all about so I asked him and he said it was for me and my brother Travis. We shared for a little bit and then my brother finally got his own.


What is your favorite motocross memory?

In 2012 when I was having a rough week at Mini O’s and had to go to the LCQ I actually came out and won and that gave me confidence for the rest of the mains.  I haven’t been back to Mini O’s since.


Who is your biggest influence?

My brother Travis because he makes me train harder and it always gives me someone to one up and vice versa with him.


What are your training techniques?

I do cross fit and work for my father’s roofing company where we are always on our feet so that helps me stay in shape.


How do you feel about getting your pro license?

It was a huge accomplishment; I was 23 when I got it.


What do you sacrifice for your motocross lifestyle?

I have to sacrifice family time because we are racing every weekend.
