RACE REPORT: Kansas City Nitro Arenacross Tour

Aaron Gulley Wins 3 Out of 4 Main Events in Front of Record-Breaking Crowd in KCMO

Kansas City, MO - After 10 rounds of Midwest travel, races in five cities and five states, and countless battles, the 2015-2016 Arctic Cat Nitro Arenacross season had reached its halfway point last weekend in Kansas City, Missouri with record-breaking 775 rider entries. When the checkered flag flew at the first round in Mesquite, Texas, we left knowing one thing: this would be the most exciting year to date. However, before the gates dropped for the pro classes at the Hale Arena, we knew there would be a few riders, Kyle Hussey, Aaron Gulley, Adam Gulley, Sean Hackley, Jeremi Williamson, and Gage Mast that possess what it takes to finish near the front of the pack. It was more a question of who will finish where. After all the intense battles, it was Aaron Gulley who outshined them all by taking 3 of the 4 main events of the weekend. Another Missouri rider, Kyle Hussey, however, spoiled Gulley’s sweep by winning the 250 Pro Main Event Saturday night.

Brain Stacy, of Hulbea, OK was the winner of round 2 of the UTV Nationals that ran during the night show also. The Power to weight ratio of the Arctic Cat Wildcat was too much for a field of Polaris RZR 1000s. In front of a captivated, record-breaking crowd, Stacy and his Arctic Cat Wildcat came out on top.

250 Pro Main Event Saturday Night

After the gate dropped, Aaron Gulley, the winner from Friday night, got pushed wide in the first turn with Sean Hackley, and both riders were sent into the side the double before the finish line. Michael Wright of Springdale, Arkansas also went down in the first turn. Adam Gulley took the holeshot with Kyle Hussey and Jeremi Williamson in tow. Hussey immediately applied the pressure on Adam Gulley and made the pass for the lead by lap four. After that, Hussey hammered down and rode solid laps gapping the rest of the field.

“There was a lot of carnage in the first turn. A couple of the faster guys went down, and Aaron crashed too. I came out second or third, made a couple quick passes and was able to ride around for fifteen solid laps,” said Hussey.

450 Pro Main Event Saturday Night

This time Aaron Gulley got through the first turn safely and grabbed the holeshot. The herd sent Sean Hackley wide again but he managed to hold on for a fourth place start. Adam Gulley passed Cole Hood going through the rhythm section for second and Sean Hackley passed Hood immediately after. The right, outside line of the whoops section seemed to be the fastest line and that’s where Adam Gulley lost two positions. Hackley got him first and Hussey got him on the next lap by taking away the inside line going into the next turn before the finish.

Halfway through, the race tightened up for the top three. Hackley showed Aaron Gulley his front wheel a few times but could not make anything happen with his challenges. Then Hackely just seemed to fade and made a mistake that setup Hussey to make the pass for second in the whoops. With about three laps to go, Hussey began to reel in Aaron Gulley, but his charge was too late and Aaron Gulley went on to capture his third main event win of the weekend.

“I pulled the holeshot, stayed out front. Hackey was really closed to me for a while and I just weathered the storm a little bit and pulled away out front, “ said Gulley. “I was just trying to keep hitting my lines. The track was really technical and slick so I just kept doing exactly what I was doing every time I went around the track and tried to do my best.”

UTV Nationals

In the heat race, Dave Osborn grabbed the holeshot and looked like he was on his way to victory. However, he suffered a mechanical issue at the beginning of lap two and parked his UTV on the side of the track for the rest of the heat. That gave the heat win away to Brain Stacy driving the Arctic Cat Wildcat.

The main event showdown was between two drivers, Brian Stacy and Todd Gilham.  Stacy grabbed the holeshot and from there it was all clear vision to the checkers. Gilham and his Polaris was no match for Stacy and his Arctic Cat Wildcat who went unchallenged.
