Aaron Plessinger seemed pretty pumped about his first supercross race performance last weekend at Anahiem 1, so we caught up with the Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha rookie during press day at Phoenix.

Jessica: Aaron Plessinger right here. Go ahead and tell us about your first Supercross race ever in the New Year of 2015 in Anaheim.

Plessinger:  Anaheim was awesome. I got off to a ninth place qualification in practice and then went out for the heat race and got a sixth place. And then went out in the main and told myself I’ve done what I needed to do and now all I need to do is put it together for 15 laps. And that’s what I did and I just kept charging after my bad start and got up to fifth. It was great I’m so happy with it!

Although your weekend went so well for you in Anaheim and you were very happy with your results, do you have anything that you’d like to improve on or to show? What’s the plan?

I want to prove to myself and actually back up what I did last weekend and show it wasn’t a fluke and that I’m a forced to be reckoned with. And I’m going for the podium spot this weekend. I’m just going to charge and do the best I can and hopefully I get up there.

With the 15 laps, how long did it take you for your body to gain the endurance for so many laps? How long did it actually take you to ride comfortably?

It takes a lot of training and everything, but I’d say for me it took me about a month or two to ride comfortably to where I could race and not have to pull off. It’s definitely some tough work but I’ve worked through it and I’m good to go.

So this being your first year of actually racing Monster Energy Supercross, does it bug you talking to media and answering questions or make you more nervous before you get out there on the bike?

It doesn’t really bother me that bad because I actually went to Ricky Carmichaels Road to Supercross and went through all that and there was cameras in my face. there That actually prepped me for this and I went to Monster Cup where there were a lot of people there asking me questions, but it doesn’t really bother me anymore and I actually kind of like it.

All right Aaron, well it was definitely great to get a couple of words out of you after your first race and going into your second Supercross weekend here in Phoenix. As always wishing you the best of luck out here in Phoenix.
